Searching for Rainbows

Today I’m finally getting a chance to play with some of my new toys that I got a couple of days ago.  I just love this rainbow die from My Favorite Things and it is the perfect size to use use some of those pieces of paper I just can’t seem to throw away.

I enjoy listening to music while making my cards and one of my favorite songs is Somewhere Over the Rainbow sung by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole; I also like Katherine McPhee’s rendition – can you tell I’m an Idol junkie?

I’m still trying to make every one of the Card Positioning Systems sketches from their 5 year anniversary celebration that is going on.  Today I chose this sketch to work with.

With so many colors in the rainbow, I could find a DP that went well with it so I decided to emboss the background paper using a Stampin’ Up embossing plate.

I wanted to add a sentiment to the side panel and I could find just what I was looking for so I designed this digi sentiment – feel free to use it if you like it!  I made this sentiment thinking about my nephews upcoming graduation – I think the sentiment is perfect for a graduation but I can see it used for cards of encouragement, even a birthday card.

Rather than use lace to the bottom of the panel as in the sketch, I took the leftover pieces from the rainbow and made a rainbow panel and placed it below the sentiment.  I added a couple clouds die cut using PTI’s cloud dies.

I really like the clean and simple feel this card has.  Just goes to show, one doesn’t need a lot of embellishments to make a gorgeous card.

Really pretty ‘rainbow’ card. Love how you added the left over pieces to make that rainbow panel – it really brings the card together beautifully.
