Where does the day go???  The day just flew by!  I have the day off today from work, my hair stylist had to cancel my appointment so I’ve been playing in my craftroom most of the day. What do I have to show for it?  One card!!!

I saw the challenge this week at Capture the Moment – Glitter Trim.  I tried several different border dies and found the more intricate detailed ones just didn’t seem to work as well for this technique (for me anyway)!

Paper: PaperTrey Ink

Dies: Flower, Bloom Builder – PaperTrey Ink and Prima Donna Petals – My Favorite Things, Heart Swirl – Magnolia Doohicky, Medium Scallop Border Die – My Favorite Things, hello – PaperTrey Ink

Embellishments: Felt, Rhinestone Brad, Ribbon, Glitter – I’ve had this for years, I just don’t seem to use glitter very often as I seem to find it everywhere after I’m done with my project.

Thanks so much for the visit – see you soon!  Dee

From The Heart Stamps Sketch # 7

FTHS Sketch #7 watermarked

It’s time for a new sketch challenge at From the Heart Stamps, I {Heart} Sketches.

Here’s sketch number 7. This week’s shape is square, but feel free to adapt it to any shape or size. Remember, have fun with it–flip it, turn it, embellish as you wish. The heart on the sketch can be any embellishment. Use stamps and supplies from any company.

EVERYONE who enters will receive $1 to FromTheHeartStamps.com. Use it as a discount, or save them up to earn a free stamp. I’ll have a new sketch for you next week. Linky will close on Sunday at 10PM EST. Join us on Facebook and “Like” our page to see sneak peeks of the next sketch.

If you played along with last month’s Free Stamp challenge you should have received this wonderful stamp free to play along with this month.  Not only does this stamp have an Easter theme; you also receive a  St. Patrick’s Day themed basket and a Spring themed basket.  Don’t have it – it’s a bargain at the From the Heart Stamps store and if you use it for this month’s challenge you will receive March’s image free!

As I was making my card for this challenge, one of my grandsons wanted to color along with me so I printed the image larger to make it easier for him to color (one of the wonderful advantages to digital images).  It was so much fun coloring with him, he made all of his own color choices – I must say I’m pretty proud of his work.

I’d Pick You

By now you know my favorite color is blue and strangely enough I love the color black.  I think everything should have at a minimum an accent of black –  it just seems to make colors pop!

Color Inspiration: Dynamic Duos

Papers: Lattice and Wild Roses – Pink Petticoat

Sentiment Stamps: Today, Tomorrow and Always – Mark’s Finest Papers

Dies: Butterflies – Memory Box, Labels Twenty-One – Spellbinders

Punch: Eyelet – Martha Stewart

Embellishements: Ribbon and Rhinestones

I have a couple of tips and tricks to share with you today.

First the butterflies.  To make the butterflies, I die cut them once each with the same blue cardstock as the DP and the second time with a piece of black cardstock.  I glued the two together; pressed them onto a Versamark pad and sprinkled clear embossing powder liberally over all.  I heat- set the embossing powder and while it was still “wet” I dipped into the embossing powder two more times; each time heat-setting the powder.  Before the embossing cooled, I shaped the wings.  I noticed the blue cardstock changed a bit in color but I like the contrast.

The second tip in using the same die to mat the sentiment diecut.  Not all dies have a size that works well for matting but here is my trick when this happen. I cut the same shape die using black cardstock and cut the die in half and then placed each half behind the sentiment to mat the sentiment.  There isn’t any matting on the side but I like how just this bit of matting helps the sentiment stand out a bit.

I finally was able to spend pretty much the entire day in my craftroom making cards yesterday – there is something very therapeutic about being able to play and creative at the same time.  I’ve said it before – so much cheaper than going to a therapist 🙂

Daisies for You

MM 281

Have you ever an idea for a card and you thought it would only take you a couple of minutes to complete it?  Well that’s what I thought when I started this card.  I knew the sketch I was going to use, the color palette and the dies I was going to use – when it came time to put it together the proportions were off.  So after almost an hour of fussing with it, this is the best I could come up with.  I probably should have just tossed it but it’s not the worst, it’s just not what I mentally had in my head.

Do you ever feel like you you use the same layout for all  of your cards?  I know I have a tendency to fall back to a few go-to sketches – I think that is why I love sketch challenges, they challenge me to get out of my comfort zone and use different elements!
