It’s your birthday!

It’s my birthday today too 🙂

Birthdays are all about being a bit squirrelly and today’s card it just that – literally and figuratively! In hindsight I wish I had used a cream color base as the white seems a bit too harsh for an autumn card but it’s not too bad – next time I’ll give the cream a whirl. I always seem to struggle to make birthday cards for those special guys in my life but I think this is works well especially with the geometric embossed background.

I’ve been playing with my new Mighty Oak Stamp and Die set from PaperTrey Ink. This is my third card, check out here and here for my two previous cards using this set. This set is so versatile, my two previous cards were a fall themed card and a birthday card – for this card I went with a sympathy theme. This time, I didn’t use any of the stamps – just the dies! I used a variety of papers from Nitwit’s Autumn Enchantment Collection – this is my favorite fall-themed paper collection, I just love the addition of the purple color!

I decided to go with a monochromatic look using a variety of leaf stamps and a diecut tree trunk that has also been stamped. The sentiment is from PaperTrey Ink’s Mum’s the Word stamp set.A little baker’s twine and a button complete the card.

I don’t know what the weather is like where you live but here in North Dakota our evenings have been a bit cooler and the leaves have started to change colors, a sign fall is just around the corner. Each day on my way to work I drive past a sunflower field. The sunflowers are in full bloom, they are so pretty as they sway in the wind against the bright blue sky!

Fall-ing

We have had just a gorgeous autumn this year but tonight as I’m writing this post it is raining and every once in awhile there is a a white, fluffy splotch that hits the window.

This week at Aud Sentiments we are challenging to “fall” – for us. As long the word “fall” is in the sentiment in some form, it is acceptable. It could be an autumn theme or a romantic theme as in “fall”ing for you – get the idea?

I chose to use this fabulous Oak Wreath from Designed 2 Delight. I just love the colors I chose to use for this card – I think the purple is a nice change of pace for an autumnal card. I used a variety of papers from Nitwits digital paper collection, Autumn Enchantment – lots of paper piecing but oh so worth it!

This posting is a bit bittersweet for me. This is my last card as part of the Aud Sentiment Design Team. It was over two years ago when Aud asked me to join the Aud Sentiment DT, I was ecstatic! At the time, I wasn’t working and I had time to hone my skills. Recently I went back to work full-time and it seems I just don’t have enough time to do all the things I would like to do. I’ve enjoyed being part of this team; I’ve enjoyed getting to work with and getting to know a great group of gals.

We are in the full swing for Fall here in North Dakota; the leaves are turning and showing us their autumnal color palette, the nights are cooling down and the daylight hours are shortening every day.

Faith outdid herself for this Blog Hop and variety of images. Not only are there new fall images but there are also wintery/ Christmas images. If you are like me, I’m trying to get a jump on my holiday cards – hopefully this will result in a more relaxing holiday season!

This is an aperture card, the outside has the opening with the snowflakes surrounding it. The image and sentiment are on the inner part of the card as seen here:

I have one last card to share with you –

I’m not sure how well you can tell by looking at the photo but the middle of the card is an acetate panel – you can see to the inner part of the card where the sentiment is. I took the sentiment from O Christmas Treen and cropped it off and used it for the inside panel.

The tricky thing about working with acetate is the backside shows so I finished off the back of the from of the card – a hint for you if you decide to try this, reverse everything (mirror image)! or things won’t align very well.

Designed 2 Delight August Blog Hop

Welcome to Designed 2 Delight’s August Blog Hop. This month we are presenting a few new images along with highlighting some of our favorite fall and winter images.

I’ve always loved this Cardinal with Winterberries image but I’ve never gotten around to coloring it – I was amazed at how easy it was to color. For me red copics can be a bit tricky but I mixed the red with a bit of the cool grays and that helped with the red intensity.

My third card I’m using an image from one of my favorite fall collections. -Scarecrow Teddy Set.

I couldn’t find any papers I wanted to use so I made my own background paper. I took 5 different ink pad from PaperTrey Ink and randomly rubbed them over a piece of white cardstock. I then used various scraps of cardstock, embossed them and lightly ran the ink pads over the raised area for a bit of interest – really brings out the embossing detail.
